I love stories. IG captions don’t quite allow me to share with you all the beautiful details that go into my couples and our time together.
The Blog is the place to learn more about real love stories, real wedding days, and be inspired for your own wedding.
Something I will NEVER do on my blogs is gate keep any locations or ideas from any couples. It’s what led me to write blogs about how to craft a wedding timeline, or how to enhance a backyard wedding in Springfield. It’s with this in mind that brings us to today’s blog, my top 5 locations in Springfield for newlywed portraits!
My city of Springfield has some truly picturesque locations for newlywed portraits which are especially great for anyone who’s having a courthouse wedding here.
If that happens to be you, or if your wedding venue is near Springfield and you’d like some portraits taken here then this blog is for you!
I LOVE when my couples have their wedding ceremony at the Sangamon County Courthouse in Springfield! Not only does having your wedding ceremony in the courthouse give you ease of access to all the incredible locations throughout Springfield for your newlywed portraits, it also keeps your day simple and about YOU.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the excitement as well as the traditions of weddings that you can lose sight of what you truly want your wedding to be like. Every person and every couple is different, so it only makes sense why every wedding day would be different as well!
If you don’t want a huge service and would rather spend your time putting together an incredible reception at your favorite restaurant YOU CAN DO THAT! A wedding ceremony at the courthouse gives you so much flexibility for your day in terms of time and your budget, it can be an incredible option that I think every couple should at least consider. If you’re looking to know more about the ins and outs of planning a courthouse wedding check out this blog here.
First on our list of newlywed portrait locations in Springfield we have the wonderful campus of Horace Mann! This office building which is in downtown Springfield has some of the most gorgeous outdoor spaces for portraits.
Not only are there plenty of portrait opportunities in the gardens around the building, but the building itself can also be used as a backdrop with its clean and crisp architectural style. Katie and Anand’s wedding day showcases this perfectly. The two had their first look here followed by a few portraits before their ceremony which all turned out stunning!
Next on our list we have the magnificent Illinois Capitol Building! Known for its stunning architecture, the capitol building is a location in downtown Springfield that is sure to have your jaw on the floor while taking your newlywed portraits there.
We had the pleasure of taking some portraits here during Dani and Ben’s wedding day, and looking through the photos you can get a glimpse into just HOW stunning the interior of the building is.
Trust me this location is a must for those looking for a historic and grand feeling to their portraits.
Union Square Park is the next stop on our list and is also in downtown Springfield. Keeping the theme with locations with a rich history, Union Square Park is a gorgeous space for outdoor newlywed portraits in Springfield.
With gorgeous red brick sidewalks around the brick building, all of which are surrounded by the beautifully kept park space, the park is an incredible option for those looking for a good mix of natural and historic feel to their photos. Dani, Ben, and I also stopped here for some portraits on their wedding day!
Next up we have one for everyone looking to experience the beauty of nature during their newlywed portraits in Springfield, Washington Park and the botanical gardens located there! The grounds of Washington Park are incredible, but the real treat here are the botanical gardens.
It’s one of the city’s most popular parks for photos, walking, and vibing. Katie and Anand also came here for portraits on their wedding day, taking family photos on the grounds of Washington Park and saving their newlywed portraits for the botanical gardens.
Last but not least on our list of newlywed portrait locations we have Carpenter Park, which can be found just north of the city of Springfield. This location is for the couples really looking to get the full beauty of nature in their wedding portraits.
Being outside of the city means that we’ll be fully enveloped in the beauty of the park for your portraits. From photos down by the Sangamon River, to one’s surrounded by the trees of the park, there is a ton to see and explore in Carpenter Park!
This was the perfect spot for Hannah + Sean, as they wanted to elope in Moab where they love to hike, but they decided to stay in IL with their family members. It was a true “hike” (by Illinois standards), so be sure to bring appropriate walking shoes to get to the river front!
PSYCH! Just when you thought we were through there’s one more spot I wanted to mention, and that’s the Cold Stone Creamery in Springfield! Now I’m not just mentioning this due to my sweet tooth, this actually is a very fun newlywed portrait locations and gives your wedding album a bit of added character.
Portraits with your ice cream walking around and exploring the downtown of the city makes for an incredible treat, pun intended, for your wedding day. Also, who wouldn’t want some ice cream to celebrate on their wedding day?!
As you can see, there are a lot of locations throughout Springfield that are perfect for newlywed portraits. Whether you want something more urban, something more historic, or something more natural, the city has you covered!
