I love stories. IG captions don’t quite allow me to share with you all the beautiful details that go into my couples and our time together.
The Blog is the place to learn more about real love stories, real wedding days, and be inspired for your own wedding.
Emily + Alec, where do I even start? These two invited me to photograph them for an in-home session in their suburban home over the summer. A house can hold many memories, Em + Alec have been living here for two years, married for almost one. They wanted in-home photos to document their time together in their small cozy home.
Emily + Alec had lived in their home for two years at the time of their session, and had been married for about a year. In their first year of marriage, they have experienced both extremes, love and loss all in one year. Em lost her mom soon after their wedding, so in their grieving, they had to put their honeymoon phase on pause. Now, almost a year later, and after supporting and loving one another through their first year of their marriage, “Now the honeymoon phase is starting” as Em put it.
When Em + Alec invited me to photograph them at their home, I was SO excited as I’m forever obsessed with suburban in-home sessions. Leading up to a couples session, I always ask my couples details about their life together. How they met, fell in love, what season of life they’re in right now, and what they’re hoping to document in our time together.
With this knowledge, and getting to know them, I put together a playlist to listen to throughout their session. My hope for my couples is that the playlist can help to lean into the moment and one another throughout their session. The playlist serves as a time capsule, it channels the senses and helps them to connect to one another, and reconnect to this moment in the future.
Em + Alec have created a life full of love and happiness with one another. As dog and cat parents, they spend their days snuggling with their fur babies, spending quality time with one another while relaxing throughout their home. We spent the afternoon laughing, talking about life, and documenting the little moments that make life for Emily + Alec in their home oh so sweet.
There is something so cool about being able to document a couple in the place they call home. For Em + Alec’s session, we spent time in some of their favorite spaces in their home, the living room, their front steps, and the kitchen. In documenting their session I could picture the nights they’ve spent eating dinner and sharing stories at their kitchen table. Thinking about the afternoons they spent watching the world go by on their front steps, and all the memories they still have to make in this little home of theirs.
If you’re as obsessed with this suburban in-home session as I am, and want these memories documented for you and your love, head to my contact page to inquire about setting up your own in-home session.
