I love stories. The Blog full of them. Here is where you learn more about real love stories, real wedding days, and be inspired for your own wedding.
One of the great things about wedding venues is that there’s something out there for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a blank slate DIY space, an all-inclusive venue that takes care of everything from the get go, or anything in-between, chances are you can find it here in Central Illinois. Today we’re going to be taking a closer look at a favorite venue of mine, and one that will really appeal to anyone that’s leaning more towards a DIY style wedding, the Artisans Building in Springfield, Illinois!Â
You might recognize The Artisans building from Carrie and Manny’s whimsical wedding day as I wrote about it earlier this year. In that article I touch a bit upon the features that make this wedding venue one of my favorites in Springfield, and really Illinois as a whole, but there’s a lot more to love than I could have possibly fit into that article!
Firstly I want to praise the amazing main space of the Artisans Building. This large, open space was renovated in 1988 to feature hardwood floors and an open floor layout that really lends itself well to wedding ceremonies and receptions alike. With 6,400 square feet to work with it’s easy to see how fitting weddings of up to 450 guests is possible in this incredible space! The size isn’t the only appeal though…
Arguably my favorite aspect of the Artisans Building as a wedding venue is the amount of freedom they give their couples to create the wedding day of their dreams. It truly is a blank slate venue, with the only real limitations for décor being that there are no candles or fog machines allowed in the building, aside from that the only limitation is your creativity!
To really bring the space to life, something I strongly encourage you to do is book a talented vendor like Create a Scene Events in Peoria. They’re the ones who put in the floor to ceiling drapes you see in Carrie and Manny’s wedding, and one of the many talented Illinois vendors I shouted out in this article. Whether you go with a rental/décor company or not, the freedom that the Artisans Building provides for couples to create their dream wedding scene is unmatched!
Another draw of the Artisans Building as a wedding venue is it’s location in Springfield, Illinois. The venue is on the north end of the city, just 7 minutes from downtown. This makes the venue incredibly simple to get to both for you and your guests. There are also a ton of hotels and Airbnbs that are only minutes away, and if you choose to have your wedding ceremony at a separate location you won’t need to spend all day traveling to the Artisans Building for your reception!
While the Artisans Building functions mostly as a blank slate, DIY wedding venue, they do still include a few amenities to help keep things simple for their couples. These include:
While their offered amenities may be less than some of the other venues I’ve covered previously, the main draw again is the creative freedom that the space offers. You really can create the wedding day of your dreams here, if you’re willing to put in a bit of work (or book a talented team of vendors to bring that vision to life!)
That covers most everything that I love about the Artisans Building, though there are a few other key notes I want to make.
First is that there is a TON of on-site parking at the venue. The Artisans Building itself sits as part of the Illinois State Fairgrounds, so there’s plenty of space for you and your guests to park.
Next is that there are no getting ready spaces on-site. Thankfully as I mentioned earlier, Springfield is home to many phenomenal Airbnbs that can make for excellent getting ready locations if you and your family don’t live in Springfield.
The Artisans Building has been a favorite wedding venue of mine in Springfield for a while now, and I’m so glad to have gotten the chance to share more about this wonderful space here on the blog with you all!
