I love stories. The Blog full of them. Here is where you learn more about real love stories, real wedding days, and be inspired for your own wedding.
Give me all those moody corners, perfectly curated decor, and all that vintage ethereal charm for the perfect way to tell the story of your wedding day!
Merrian and Ryan checked all those boxes with their wedding at The Legacy Building – a dreamy wedding venue in El Paso, IL. And what a truly beautiful day this was.
Quick shout out to both Merrian and Ryan for leaving me a review highlighting their engagement session and wedding day coverage! I’m so appreciative of my clients who share their experience, so a huge thank you is in order!
Merrian: “Rachael was quick to respond and communicated clearly…She was fun, caring, and gave direction…The final photos were absolutely gorgeous – moody, high-quality, and reliable.”
Ryan: “She met with us via video call several times through the wedding planning process and helped in giving suggestions for locations for our engagement shoot. 10/10 best wedding photographer.”
Let’s get to those wedding day details at this beautiful historic wedding venue! The Legacy Building has so much history to it. It provides a very dynamic and wonderfully curated moody backdrop throughout the entire day in EVERY single room.
One of the best parts about planning a wedding at The Legacy Building is that there are so many beautiful spaces to spend your whole day at the venue.
When planning a wedding at a historic venue like the Legacy building, you’re able to spend more time with your loved ones because you don’t have to travel for various parts of your day.
Since there are AirBnBs in a portion of The Legacy Building, getting ready on site for your wedding is so easy.
Merrian got ready in the Vintage Nest room. This room had tons of dreamy light flowing in through the large corner windows. This room also hosts a mirror wall and vintage decor (great for those ethereal dress and veil details).
Meanwhile Ryan hung out in the game room on the first floor, which is another amazing spot for moody portrait vibes.
Peep Ryan coming up the stairs for their first touch. :’)
We started with a first touch- where they held hands but did not see each other. There Ryan & Merrian shared private vows.
We jumped around to some outdoor spots as well as the Airbnb rooms and game room to round out their portraits for the day.
Before their ceremony, many of their photos were taken in the Green Room. Fun fact, no, it’s not actually green.
This room doubled as the holding space for all the reception tables. The incredible staffed moved them out for us so we could take photos.
When were done, they moved them back into the room out of the way. We made sure to include this in the wedding timeline!
Ryan & his own crew got their own portrait time- in the speakeasy bar & Airbnb spaces.
Historic wedding venues are one of the best choices for couples looking for some charm and vintage feel added to their day.
You can feel like you’re falling back in time with the aged wood beams, original brick walls, and history in every room.
Your wedding will inevitably become part of the building’s story and purpose. Plus so many dreamy and intimate details will be added to your portraits. Each room has something new (and old) to discover and enjoy!
After portraits it was time for the ceremony.
The wedding ceremony space of The Legacy Building is an old opera house with a stage perfect for their friends and family to watch them get married.
Before I let Merrian and Ryan let loose on the dance floor, we popped down the stairs for some moody flash photos AND dramatic window lighting photos. A photographers dream. Who needs golden hour?
These were SO much fun. Soon it was finally time for them to party with their guests.
While we were taking photos, their folks were celebrating cocktail hour in the old bank turned speakeasy!
Once everyone was seated, Merrian & Ryan entered into the reception and dove straight into their first dance. Then they cut the cake.
Merrian changed into a shorter dress for the reception.
I love a good wedding gown, but they just are not comfortable to party in!
This couple + this venue = a literal perfect match.
With all the spaces The Legacy Building has to offer, there was no way we weren’t capturing all that moodiness and historical charm.
