I love stories. IG captions don’t quite allow me to share with you all the beautiful details that go into my couples and our time together.
The Blog is the place to learn more about real love stories, real wedding days, and be inspired for your own wedding.
Emily and Andy are going to be celebrating their wedding at the Chevy Chase Country Club this summer and I am SO excited to be there for them! Unfortunately spring has just barely sprung, so I still have to wait a bit until I get to document these two again. On the plus side though, I do get to finally share their dreamy, romantic, and moody Chicago engagement session here on the blog! From the incredible and historic UofC, to the scenic backdrop of the Adler Planetarium, their engagement photos feature some of THE best spaces in Chicago, and I’m so excited to finally get them up here!
Before we really dive into their session, I wanted to give you all just a bit of history when it comes to Emily and Andy. When talking with my couples I usually ask “so when did you know this was your person?”, and it’s usually pretty funny as they realize they both have different moments when this realization struck them.
For Emily and Andy though, they both said that their moment was during their trip together to Traverse City, MI. It was while Andy played Mario Kart with Emily’s niece and nephew that the realization struck them both. The genuine connection Andy made with Emily’s family, and Emily’s love of seeing this from Andy was when they both knew!
That moment, along with SO many others, are what led to Emily and Andy’s engagement session. Our tour of some of Chicago’s most beautiful locations started at the amazing campus of the University of Chicago.
The gothic architecture of the campus’ older buildings provide the perfect atmosphere for some moodier photos. It honestly feels like Hogwarts, or even a scene out of Ever After with Drew Barrymore (super underrated movie by the way). Either way, the setting is one of the most unique in the city of Chicago. It turned out to be ideal for this portion of Emily and Andy’s session as well. These two were down for all my suggestions, and weren’t afraid to really lean into the moody vibes!
It was such a fun space to start at for their engagement photos, and up next was the dreamy Adler Planetarium and Museum Campus!
After a short drive north to the Adler Planetarium, and a quick outfit swap, it was time for some romantic sunset engagement photos! The view of the Chicago skyline from the Adler Planetarium is out of this world. The lake, the ethereal lighting, and the connection between Emily and Andy, it all felt so perfect in this moment.
Following our lakefront portraits we actually took a bit of a hike through the fields south of the Adler Planetarium, which gave their engagement photos an even more dreamy feel. This was one of those sessions where the sun actually felt like it was working as a paid actor, as it was just SUCH a breathtaking sunset. Emily and Andy were sure to soak it all in as well, making the most of each moment with one another, and it really shows in their photos.
I am SO happy that I got to travel up to Chicago for Emily and Andy’s engagement session! While it is a bit of a hike for me from Springfield, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. If you want to see more of my work in the Windy City be sure to check out Alysa and Adam’s engagement session, and for anyone looking to book me as their photographer head on over to my contact page to send me an inquiry today!
